Bhubaneswar: The Subhadra Yojana, a major poll promise of the BJP during the recently concluded elections, will be launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on September 17 on the occasion of his birth anniversary.
It was announced by Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi in Delhi during his address to the Odia diaspora in the national Capital.
“The Subhadra Yojana will be launched on September 17 which is the birth anniversary of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He will visit Odisha and launch the scheme at a grand event in the presence of 5 lakh women from across the State,” Majhi said while addressing the Odia diaspora in New Delhi.
The government is in the process of implementing the ambitious scheme, under which every woman will receive a cash voucher of Rs 50,000 to be encashed over a period of two years. The scheme aims at empowering women and enhancing entrepreneurship among them.
Earlier, the State has sought partial financial support from the Centre to implement the yojana.
Earlier, the deputy chief minister Pravati Parida said that modalities for the scheme have been finalised.
The first cabinet of the new BJP government was held hours after the oath-taking ceremony in which the Subhadra Yojana got approval.
