Bhubaneswar: In a shocking incident, a person stabbed his father to death over a family dispute at a Rangamatia-based apartment under Mancheswar police limits in Bhubaneswar, on Wednesday.
The accused has been identified as Anirudh Choudhury, a professor of a Law College while the deceased has been identified as Sunil Choudhury, a retired officer of Nalco.
According to sources, Sunil had an altercation with Anirudh early Wednesday morning. An enraged Anirudh stabbed Sunil without thinking about the outcome of his step. The incident took place in the wee hours of Wednesday. Sunil died when he was being taken to a hospital.
Acting on a tip-off, Mancheswar police rushed to the spot and sent Sunil’s body for post-mortem. Police, meanwhile, detained the accused son for interrogation.
It is learnt from Sunil’s neighbour that Anirudh lost his cool following an altercation with his father and stabbed the latter in a fit of rage. Despite being in law profession, his inhumane act has sent shockwaves in the locality.
Talking to media, Deputy Commissioner of Police Prateek Singh said, “It is learnt from preliminary investigation that the accused Anirudh Choudhury was debt ridden due to which he was depressed. An altercation ensued between the father-son duo on Wednesday morning when Anirudh demanded money from his father to repay his loan. As Sunil declined to give him money, Anirudh killed him in front of his mother. However, we will investigate further into it and establish the reasons behind the murder.”
“A case has been registered under Section 103 of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) in this connection. A scientific team has been pressed into action. Mancheswar police seized the weapon of offence from the crime spot. The deceased’s body will be sent for post-mortem. The deceased’s wife will also be interrogated.” Singh added.
