Bhubaneswar: The inaugural session of the 17th Odisha Assembly got off to a contentious start as opposition parties, including BJD and Congress members, staged a walkout in protest during Governor Raghubar Das’s address.
The opposition parties staged a walk-out protest during the Governor’s address over the ‘Odia Asmita’ issue.
Governor Das, in his address, said, “My government will honour the ultimate sacrifices of our martyrs and govern with a steadfast commitment to forgiveness, humility, and compassion, staying away from grudge, hatred, ego, and revenge.”
Adding on, the Governor said, “With Odia Asmita at its core, my government is dedicated to leading Odisha to unprecedented heights through vigilant, proactive, transparent, and empathetic governance.”
Das also spoke on youth empowerment and timely assistance to farmers, women’s empowerment, and upholding the constitutional rights and safety of Dalits and Advasis.
He also highlighted the government’s aspiration to create a ‘Viksit Odisha’ by 2036. “As we approach the centenary of Odisha’s formation, my government aspires to create a ‘Viksit Odisha’ by 2036—a state where farmers thrive, youth find employment, and women are empowered.”
“To bolster millet production and consumption, my government will implement various measures. These initiatives include encouraging millet farming in tribal areas, establishing a reliable supply chain, offering financial support for millet processing facilities, and incorporating millet into the menus of government-run canteens, schools, and institutions.” Added Governor Das.
The Governor also spoke on Lord Jagannath: “Lord Jagannath is the identity of every Odia. Universal brotherhood is the core theme of Jagannath culture. My government acknowledges the importance of Jagannath culture.”
