Bhubaneswar:  The dengue cases have decreased compared to last year in Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) area, thanks to intensified surveillance and awareness campaigns.

Since June 20, 2024, 850, volunteers have been working tirelessly to educate citizens about dengue prevention, conducting door-to-door awareness programs and engaging school students in the fight against dengue.

Anti-larvae programs, cleaning, bush cutting, and removal of larvae from sources have also been going on.

According to BMC, 10,041 blood samples were tested till July 30, 2024 out of which 241 were detected positive. Only 99 had been hospitalised while 94 of them have fully recovered and returned home.

The number of dengue patients has decreased compared to last year. As many as 509 dengue positives had been detected in 2023 while it came down to 190 in 2024.

BMC Commissioner Rajesh Prabhakar Patil attributed this success to increased citizen awareness and appealed for continued cooperation to maintain a clean and healthy environment.

From August 22, auto-mandate and hand-operated smoking programs will be conducted in all wards to further combat dengue. Citizens are urged to keep their surroundings clean, avoid littering, and observe one dry day a week.
