Mayurbhanj: A two-year-old baby boy died after being buried under debris as a herd of elephants ransacked the house he was residing at Saitapur village under Betanati Range in Mayurbhanj district late Friday night.
The deceased has been identified as Dibyaprakash, son of Yudhistir Kisku and Rina Kisku.
According to sources, a herd of seven elephants had strayed into the village in search of food on Friday night. Two of the elephants attacked the house of Yudhistir Kisku, causing significant damage. Divyaprakash, who was sleeping with his grandmother Salega Kisku and his mother Rina, was trapped under the debris when the wall of the house collapsed.
Despite efforts to rescue him, Divyaprakash succumbed to his injuries and was declared dead by doctors at the Betanati hospital. The incident has left the family and the entire village in shock.
The police have registered a case of unnatural death and have initiated an investigation. The body of the deceased has been sent for post-mortem.
