Bhubaneswar: The regional office of the India Meteorological Department (IMD) in Bhubaneswar has issued a heavy rainfall warning for eight Odisha districts for Wednesday.
Forecasting heavy rainfall (7 cm to 11 cm), the yellow warning (be updated) has been issued for Malkangiri, Koraput, Nabarangpur, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Sambalpur, and Deogarh.
Similarly, a heavy rainfall warning has been issued for Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, and Deogarh for Thursday.
Apart from the above districts, light to moderate rainfall or thundershowers are expected in the north and south Odisha districts, the weather office said.
Most places across Odisha received heavy rainfall from 8.30 am to 5.30 pm Tuesday. The highest rainfall of 92 mm was recorded at Bolangir, while it was 61.2 mm at Paralakhemundi, 60 mm at Angul, and 57 mm at Nabarangpur and Boudh.
The district authorities have been directed to take precautionary steps to avoid flooding in the low-lying areas of the state.
Incessant rain on Monday and Tuesday resulted in flooding of several areas in Cuttack, traffic on National Highway No 57 has been hit due to water-logging. Communication to and fro between Khurda and Nayagarh has been disrupted. Rain water flows on Baghmari Road and buses, trucks and two-wheelers going to Bhubaneswar are stranded on both sides of the road.
