IMD Forecasts Heavy Rain In Most Odisha Districts In Next 48 Hours

Bhubaneswar: Heavy rain (7 mm to 11 mm) accompanied by thunder and lightning will likely lash most state districts on Tuesday and Wednesday. A yellow warning for heavy rain has been issued for 10 state districts.

As per the regional center of the India Meteorological Department (IMD) in Bhubaneswar, heavy rain is likely to occur at several places in Nuapada, Bolangir, Bargarh, Sambalpur and Jharsuguda districts on Monday. Similarly, there is a possibility of thundershowers and lightning in Nuapada, Bolangir, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Sundargarh, Deogarh, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Balasore and Jharsuguda districts.

Heavy rain is also likely to occur at some places in Kendrapara, Jajpur, Bhadrak, Keonjhar, Balasore, Mayurbhanj, Jagatsinghpur, Sundargarh, Deogarh, Angul, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Sonepur, Bargarh, Bolangir, Nuapada, Kalahandi, Nabarangpur and Koraput districts on Tuesday.

Heavy rain is expected at some places in Balasore, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar and Sundargarh districts on Thursday. The IMD has issued a yellow alert for these districts.

On the other hand, normally Odisha experiences around 686.8 mm of rain between June 1 and August 11. But there has been 630.5 mm of rain in the state during the period this monsoon. In other words, there has been a deficit of 56.3 mm of rain this year.

Nine districts of the state received less than normal rainfall, including Puri, Kendrapara, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Balasore, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Sundargarh and Jharsuguda. However, 16 districts Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack, Khordha, Dhenkanal, Nayagarh, Devgarh, Angul, Ganjam, Gajapati, Kandhamal, Sambalpur, Bargarh, Bolangir, Kalahandi, Rayagada and Nabarangpur – experienced normal rainfall. Four districts, on the other hand, received more than normal rainfall. These districts include Koraput, Nuapada, Sonepur, and Boudh. Malkangiri district received 1234.3 mm of rainfall, which is much more than normal rainfall.
