Bhubaneswar: A woman jumped into the Chitrotpala River from Nemala Bridge with her minor son near Salipur in Cuttack, on Wednesday. Unfortunately, the child’s body has been fished out by the locals, but the mother’s body is still missing.

The deceased child is estimated to be between 5 to 6 years old.

According to reports, the family resides in the Nemala area. The fire department is making efforts to recover the mother’s body.

Till the last report came in, a rescue operation was underway for the woman.

While the reason behind the mother and son jumping into the river is still unclear, relatives of the deceased woman stated that the woman was stressed due to a group loan, which might have led her to take this extreme step.

On the other hand, the daughter of the deceased woman revealed “Today morning, I and my younger brother had come to the market with our mother. My brother’s blood test was done there. While returning home after the test, my mother first pushed my brother into the river before jumping into the river.”

Locals rescued the boy soon after the mishap and rushed him to SCB Medical College and Hospital where doctors declared him dead.

Salipur police, meanwhile, began an investigation into the incident.
