Sundargarh: Amidst thunderous applause and vibrant celebrations, Olympic bronze medalist Amit Rohidas made a triumphant return to his ancestral village of Saunamara in Sundargarh district.

The entire village erupted in joy to welcome back their hometown hero, marking a momentous occasion that will be etched in the memories of the villagers forever.

Amit was born in this village and has now returned after achieving great success in the Olympics. He was initially stopped midway and then taken to his home, where his mother welcomed him. Later, he will be felicitated by the villagers.

Talking to the media, Rohidas said, “I was eagerly waiting to return to my village. Finally, I reached my village. Yesterday, the Odisha government made elaborate arrangements to felicitate the entire hockey team. I would like to thank Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi for felicitating me with a Rs 4 crore cash prize. My family members and villagers gave me a rousing welcome. I would like to thank everyone in my family and village for this gesture. We have returned empty-handed. We returned to our country with a medal. Roads to get a bronze medal were not that easy. Everyone in the  team gave their best to help us win.”

Earlier, Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Wednesday felicitated the Indian men’s hockey team at the Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneswar for their bronze medal win at the Paris Olympics.

At the Paris Olympics, India’s men’s hockey team etched their names into the history book after securing back-to-back bronze medals at the Olympics for the first time in 52 years.
