Bhubaneswar: A police team raided Bolangir jail on Friday and seized tobacco items and other intoxicants. On the instruction of Superintendent of Police (SP) Khilari Rishikesh Dnyandeo, a team from Town Police station carried out the raid early this morning two days after a gang war inside the prison between two groups.
The police team included two platoons of forces and nine officers. The raid was conducted in the presence of a magistrate, said police.
The male ward, cells, female ward, and kitchen were searched. Huge quantities of bidi, cigarettes, matchboxes and tobacco items were seized, said an official.
Earlier on Wednesday, a clash erupted between two groups of criminals inside the prison, leaving one inmate injured.
Following the brawl, the prisoners were lodged in separate cells with close watch on their activities, jail officials said.
