Koraput: Renowned for her dedication to organic farming and the conservation of various millet and paddy varieties, Raimati Ghiuria from Koraput has once again made headlines.
Ghiuria was honoured with the ‘Amazing Indians Awards 2024,’ organized by the Times Network, in a ceremony held today in New Delhi. She received the award from Union Minister of Parliamentary Affairs, Kiren Rijiju, bringing pride to Odisha and India.
Ghiuria, who has been associated with the M S Swaminathan Research Foundation (MSSRF) for the past 21 years, has consistently worked towards organic farming and preserving traditional seed varieties. The MSSRF supported her application for this prestigious award.
The ‘Amazing Indians Award 2024’ featured 12 categories. Over 5,000 applicants vied for recognition across these categories. Ghiuria had applied in the ‘Agriculture’ category.
A special jury selected five finalists in the ‘Agriculture’ category, and Ghiuria was ultimately declared the winner.
“This achievement is a source of inspiration and pride not only for Koraput but also for Odisha and India, particularly for the farming community,” said Prashant Kumar Parida, Director of the Jeypore Regional Centre of MSSRF, speaking to the media.
