Bhubaneswar: A Vigilance Court in Berhampur on Tuesday sentenced Secretary of Regional Cooperative Marketing Societies Ltd., Bhanjanagar in Ganjam district Santosh Kumar Maharana to three years rigorous imprisonment (RI) and fine in a corruption case.
As per an official press release, the Court pronounced the sentence after convicting Maharana for misappropriating government money to the tune of Rs 19,46,460.
Maharana was charge sheeted by Odisha Vigilance under section 13(2) read with 13(1)(d) of PC Act of 1988 and section 120B and 109 of IPC for showing undue official favour to a purchaser in connection with sale (by under valuation ignoring the bench mark value) of a piece of land belonging to RCMS, Bhanjanagar, thereby misappropriating Government fund to the tune of Rs.19,46,460.
The release stated that Odisha Vigilance will now move the competent authority for dismissal of Maharana from service following his conviction.
