Several Odisha Dists Likely To Receive Heavy To Very Heavy Rain Today

Bhubaneswar: Most parts of Odisha are very likely to experience very heavy rainfall on Thursday under the influence of a fresh low-pressure area in the east-central Bay of Bengal. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the wet spell is likely to continue till August 31.

The low-pressure area in the east central and adjoining north Bay of Bengal will move west and north-west and reach the coast of south Odisha and north Andhra Pradesh. As a result, heavy to very heavy rain is likely in some places in Malkangiri, Koraput, Nabarangpur and Rayagada today. The IMD has issued an orange alert for in these districts.

Similarly, heavy rain may occur at several places in Ganjam, Gajapati, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Bolangir, Nuapada, Nayagarh, Khorda, and Puri on Thursday.

Heavy to very heavy rain may occur in Malkangiri and Koraput districts on Friday. An orange alert has been issued in these two districts. Heavy to very heavy rain may also occur in Nabarangpur, Kalahandi, Rayagada, Gajapati and Ganjam. Some places may receive 70mm to 200 mm of rainfall, the IMD warned. Nuapada, Bolangir, Boudh, Kandhamal, Nayagarh, Khorda, Puri, Cuttack, and Jagatsinghpur may also experience heavy rain. The IMD has forecast heavy to very heavy rains in Nabarangpur, Malkangiri and, Koraput on Saturday.

Many parts of the state, including Puri and Bhubaneswar, have experienced light rain on Wednesday. The Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) has advised fishermen not to venture into the sea. Water logging may occur in urban and rural areas. The SRC has directed the district administrations and urban authorities to be alert and take proactive steps.
