Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government has said that it has decided to stop the Nutana Unnata Abhilasha (NUA) Odisha scheme launched by the previous BJD government. Instead, the Mohan Majhi-led BJP government will introduce a new scheme, titled ‘Financial Assistance to UG and PG Students’ to provide financial aid to students.
Informing this in the Odisha Assembly on Friday, Higher Education Minister Suryabanshi Suraj said that there is no provision for the ‘Nua O’ scheme in the 2024-25 annual Budget. “The new government is working on the modalities of the ‘Financial Assistance to UG and PG Students’ scheme and it will be implemented soon.”
Alleging that the BJD government spent around Rs 95 crore under the ‘Nua O’ scheme only on conducting cultural events in colleges, the minister said that the previous government had earmarked Rs 300 crore for the scheme.
