Bhubaneswar: Laxmisagar police under Bhubaneswar Urban Police District (UPD) on Monday arrested one Ramesh Behera alias Babaji (43) of Jharpara area for threatening a woman with her life.
According to an official press release, police have seized an US made pistol and five rounds of live ammunitions from Ramesh’s possession.
Ramesh who has been booked under sections 126(2), 296, 115(2), 109, 3(5), 351(2), 351(3) of BNS read with section 25, 27 of Arms Act was forwarded to court.
Accused Ramesh was arrested on the basis of a complaint lodged at Laxmisagar police station by one Priyanka Behera (20) of Dolamandap Sahi of Jharpada area on Friday.
Priyanka and Ramesh are relatives and have their buildings side by side and had some conflict over building of their houses. On last Thursday about 6.00 PM accused Ramesh under the influence of alcohol abused Priyanka and her family members in filthy language. Ramesh’s wife Mamina also joined him following which heated argument took place between them and the complainant’s family.
Suddenly Ramesh brought out a gun and threatened Priyanka and her family members to kill them and also assaulted Priyanka’s grandfather Jogendra Behera. When Priyanka told them that she will report the matter at the police station, accused Ramesh concealed the gun and fled away from the spot. Prior to this incident, the accused had threatened and tried to kill Priyanka and her family members in many instances by using gun, stone and stick.
On Sunday at about 08:30 PM police on getting information from a reliable source that accused Ramesh was standing near a tea stall at Jharpada Market police proceeded to the spot and apprehended him. Following a search a pistol made in USA and five rounds of live ammunitions were seized from his possession. Accused Ramesh was arrested and forwarded to the court today.
Ramesh has criminal antecedents and two criminal cases pending against his name at Laxmisagar police station.
