Bhubaneswar: The Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) took swift action against corruption by sealing two Jana Seva Kendras and arresting two individuals for allegedly demanding bribes from women applying for the Odisha government’s flagship Subhadra scheme.
The crackdown follows complaints of extortion for application forms, registration, and assistance with the enrolling process.
According to reports, BMC investigated after receiving allegations of bribery. And the investigation further led to the sealing of the two centres at Niladri Vihar and Satya Nagar.
Meanwhile, the civic body authorities have lodged an FIR against the accused and assure applicants that forms will be available until the last applicant.
On the other hand, the state government, led by Mohan Majhi, has issued a stern warning against those demanding bribes, urging citizens to report such incidents to the police.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to inaugurate the scheme on his birthday in Puri which is why the state government is leaving no stone unturned to prevent any derelictions.
