Bhubaneswar: Security have been beefed up in Bhubaneswar over the Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to the capital city to launch the Odisha government’s Subhadra Yojana at a function at the Janata Maidan on September 17.
Police Commissioner Sanjeeb Panda told the media on Sunday that 81 platoon police force will be deployed during Modi’s visit. Eleven DCP rank officers, 22 additional DCPs, 66 ACPs, 100 IICs, 300 senior police officers will be appointed.
A large number of women police officers will be appointed. A total of six units of STU, ODRAF and CRPF companies will also be deployed. Police have also been deployed in high-rise buildings.
Odisha Chief Secretary Manoj Ahuja and DGP YB Khurania have already reviewed the security arrangements for Modi’s visit. Similarly, Special Protection Group (SPG) officials have also reviewed the security measures and held discussions with Odisha officials regarding the arrangements.
According to reports, 50 officers will be responsible for overseeing security and crowd control. In addition, the authorities will put up LED televisions at select locations in Bhubaneswar for people to watch the event.
Security arrangements have been beefed up right from the Biju Patnaik International Airport (BPIA) and along the route to Janata Maidan. Barricades are being put up along the entire route from BPIA to Janata Maidan, DCP Prateek Singh told the media.
An eight-member SPG team is in the city and it is drawing up the security measures ahead of the Prime Minister’s visit. Special attention is being given to put in place a safe and hazard-free set up at Janata Maidan for the PM’s event.
The Prime Minister’s programme will be for around two hours and the department of Women and Child Development is coordinating arrangements for the event.
The Prime Minister will launch the Subhadra Yojana, Mohan Majhi government’s flagship scheme, which aims to financially empower more than one crore woman. Under the scheme, eligible beneficiaries will get Rs 5,000 each on Rakhi Purnima and International Women’s Day. This way an eligible woman beneficiary will get Rs 50,000 in five years.
Aside from the Subhadra Yojana, the Prime Minister will lay foundation stones and dedicate to the nation several railway and national highway projects worth Rs 3,800 crore.
