Basta: Fire Service personnel successfully rescued five individuals, including two men and three women, who were swept away by strong floodwater while attempting to fetch ration from Simulia market on Wednesday.

These people were using the PMGSY Kulhachad-Jamkunda road in the Baliapal block of Balasore district when they were caught in the powerful current.

The rescued individuals have been admitted to the Community Health Centre (CHC) in Baliapal, where the condition of one woman is reported to be critical.

Severe flooding in the Subarnarekha river has left over 50 villages across seven panchayats in Baliapal block marooned. The floodwater is currently flowing 3-4 feet above the main road in Kulhachad, making travel and access difficult.
