Flood Situation In Odisha Improving; Relief & Rescue Operations Underway: SRC

Bhubaneswar: The flood situation in Odisha is gradually improving, with the water levels in rivers Subarnarekha and Jalaka in Balasore district receding after flowing above danger levels.

According to the office of the Special Relief Commissioner (SRC), the low-lying areas of Baliapal, Basta, and Bhograi blocks in Balasore district were inundated with overflowing water, necessitating evacuation.

In Balasore district, five blocks, including Bhograi, Basta, Jaleswar, Balasore Sadar, and Remuna, have been affected, impacting 141 villages and 35,654 people. 11,632 people have been evacuated. Relief efforts include 51 free kitchen centres, emergency distribution of flatten rice and jaggery, and Polythene. Two medical and veterinary teams each have been deployed.

Twenty-two blocks have been affected by the flood in Mayurbhanj district, with 101 villages and 2,035 people impacted. One Urban Local Body (ULB), Baripada having 11 wards, is also affected.

Similarly, five blocks – Patna, Champua, Saharpada, Hatadihi, and Harichandanpur in Keonjhar have been hit. As many as 1,160 people in 22 villages have been impacted. 35 houses partially damaged.

The deluge hit Sundargarh district’s one block and one ULB- Rourkela, with 153 people impacted. Food packets are being distributed to affected individuals.

Seven ODRAF, one NDRF, and 14 Fire emergency teams have been deployed in Balasore, while five ODRAF and 12 Fire emergency teams are operating in Mayurbhanj. Additionally, one NDRF team has been deployed in Bhadrak for rescue operations.
