Ganjam: Two labourers were killed and another severely injured after a pick-up rammed into a truck from behind near Pitala Chhak under Hinjili police limits of Odisha’s Ganjam district on Wednesday late night.
The deceased were identified as Suman Gantayat of Sundapalli village under Dharakote police limits and Ajit Badtya of Sardhapur village. The injured driver has been admitted to a nearby hospital.
According to reports, Suman and Ajit were travelling on a pick-up van to Berhampur from Bhandaribasa in Ganjam on Wednesday night. The accident occurred near Pitala Chhak when the pick-up van tried to overtake a truck. However, the driver of the van lost control of the wheels and the vehicle rammed into the truck from behind.
Suman and Ajith died on the spot, while the driver of the pick-up van was seriously injured. On being informed, police reached the spot, recovered the bodies and sent them for autopsy. They have initiated an investigation into the incident.
