Bhubaneswar: Three persons have reportedly died of diarrhoea and 20 others were hospitalized following the outbreak of diarrhoea at Albandha village under Gudialbandha panchayat in Mayurbhanj district.

The deceased have been identified as Rajkishore Naik (62) of Albandha village, Nidrabati Naik (50) of Karanjia village, and a minor from Chauliashola village.

According to reports, the villagers had consumed food at a community feast to mark the 10th-day ritual of a deceased person in the village. After consuming the food, the villagers began experiencing severe diarrhoea and vomiting, leading to their hospitalization. Unfortunately, three of them succumbed to diarrhoea.

Initially, 11 patients were admitted to the local hospital yesterday. However, 10 more have been shifted to the District Headquarters Hospital today and today for treatment.

The Health Department has dispatched two teams to the village to investigate the incident and take necessary measures to prevent diarrhoea from spreading.

“I have not received any death news due to diarrhoea. A total of 21 villagers have been admitted to hospital so far. We have sent two teams to the village to assess the situation and take necessary steps,” said Ghasiram Murmu, District Public Health Officer.
