Yellow Warning Issued: Lightning & Thunderstorms Likely For Odisha Districts In Next 48 Hours

Bhubaneswar: The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow warning for thunderstorms with lightning in several districts of Odisha for the next two days.

IMD issued a yellow warning to 2 districts including Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada, Kandhamal, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, and Kendrapara.  As per IMD forecast, these districts will witness thunderstorms with lightning on Sunday.

For Monday, the regional weather office has extended yellow warning to 17 districts, including Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Koraput, Malkangiri, Rayagada, Mayurbhanj, Dhenkanal, and Keonjhar.

Residents are advised to be aware of the possibility of thunderstorms with lightning.

“Thunderstorms with lightning are very likely to occur at isolated places in the districts of Nabarangapur, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda and Nayagarh”, read the IMD weather prediction for September 24.

Also, the weather office has issued a yellow warning for heavy rainfall to Ganjam, Gajapati, Rayagada, Malkangiri and Koraput districts for the same day.

As per IMD prediction for September 25, heavy rainfall (7 to 11cm) is very likely to occur at isolated places in the districts of Malkangiri, Koraput, Gajapati, Nabarangapur, Kalahandi and Rayagada.
