Bhubaneswar: Several parts of Odisha are likely to experience light to moderate rain accompanied by lightning and thundershowers during the next 24 hours, the regional center of the India Meteorological Department (IMD) alerted on Friday.
The weather office further said that a fresh low-pressure area is likely to form over the Bay of Bengal on October 6 bringing rain to some parts of Odisha and neighbouring West Bengal.
A yellow alert for light to moderate rain accompanied by thundershowers and lightning has been issued for 21 Odisha districts on Friday. The districts that are likely to be affected include Dhenkanal, Jajpur, Boudh, Angul, Deogarh, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Bargarh, Subarnapur, Kandhamal and Nayagarh. Ganjam, Gajapati, Puri, Khurda, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapara, Bhadrak, Balasore, Mayurbhanj, and Keonjhar are also likely to experience some amount of rainfall today.
According to the IMD, the weather conditions are likely to change from Saturday as the intensity of rain will decrease. However, several areas are likely to receive light rainfall for the next two days.
Meanwhile, the water level in the Hirakud Dam has swelled due to incessant heavy rain in the area. When the water level in the dam is 630 feet, and flood water is being released through four gates.
