Two-Day Weather Forecast: IMD Issues Alert For Thunderstorm With Lightning To Several Districts

Bhubaneswar: Odisha is to experience thunderstorms with lightning for the next two days, according to the India Meteorological Department on Monday.

Going by the midday bulletin issued by the regional weather office, isolated places in the districts of Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada, Nabarangapur, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Nuapada, Balangir and Bargarh will witness thunderstorm with lightning on October 1. These districts have been issued a yellow warning for thunderstorms with lightning for these districts.

For October 2, the IMD has issued a yellow warning for thunderstorms with lightning to 10 districts including Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Ganjam, Gajapati, Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada, Nabarangapur, Kalahandi and Kandhamal.

“Thunderstorms with lightning are very likely to occur at isolated places in the districts of Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Ganjam, Gajapati, Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada, Nabarangpur, Kalahandi, Kandhamal” read the IMD report for October 2.

Keeping the IMD forecast in mind, the Special Relief Commissioner has meanwhile issued a set of guidelines for the districts which are likely to be affected by the weather conditions.

The SRC has asked the districts under yellow warning to keep administrative machinery ready to face the eventuality. Besides, people have been advised to keep watch on weather and take safe shelter during the thunderstorm activity to protect from lightning.

As there are chances of low-lying areas in urban areas getting submerged, SRC asked the ULBs to keep the drains and storm water channels de-congested, and adequate de-watering pumps be deployed as per requirement.
