Bhubaneswar:  In a chilling incident of honour killing, a young man was allegedly murdered by his parents for marrying outside his caste. The incident took place in Jajpur’s Sukinda area.

Though the incident had taken place eight days ago, it came to the fore after the deceased’s wife filed a complaint in this regard accusing her parents of killing her husband.

The deceased has been identified as Sushilmaya  Singh Samant, a resident of Sukinda. Sushil had married Bijayalaxmi Sahu of Duburi area under Kalinganagar police limits after a courtship. Sushil’s parents were unhappy with Sushil’s marriage as Bijayalaxmi was from a different caste, against his parents’ wishes. The family members of Sushil even ostracized the couple soon after their marriage, read the complaint filed by Bijaylaxmi.

Going by Bijayalaxmi’s complaint, Sushil was working as a security guard in Bangaluru and they had returned to Sukinda some months back. They were residing in a rented house at Sukinda.

The complainant alleged that Sushil’s family had been harassing them since their marriage. They had also taken around Rs 2 lakh from Sushil, which they refused to return. An altercation ensued between Sushil asked his parents to return Rs 2 lakh so that he could go back to Bengaluru. Finding no other go, Sushil went to his parents to get back his money on September 19 but never returned. The next day, his body was recovered from a nearby well.

Bijayalaxmi has accused her in-laws, including Sushil’s parents, five sisters, and a maternal uncle, of killing her husband and dumping his body in a well. Based on Bijaylaxmi’s complaint, Sukinda police have registered a case under Section 302 of the IPC and started an investigation.

However, no arrests have been made yet, sparking concerns about the effectiveness of the investigation.

Though eight days have elapsed since the incident, police are clueless about the killers who reportedly fled the scene after committing the crime, alleged Bijayalaxmi.
