Bhubaneswar: Preparations for Durga Puja are underway in Bhubaneswar, with the city eagerly awaiting the arrival of Goddess Durga. In a bid to promote eco-friendliness, the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) has issued strict guidelines for a plastic-free celebration.
As per the BMC guidelines, puja pandals will be managed through eco-friendly methods. No plastic materials will be allowed inside the puja pandals and dustbins will be placed nearby.
To ensure cleanliness, garbage collection vehicles will operate twice a day. Information centres will be set up at all puja locations. The BMC has also constructed five temporary water bodies for immersion, informed BMC Mayor Sulochana Das.
She also said that road repair work got delayed because of inclement weather in the last few days. Road repairs are underway and will be completed before the puja. The authorities are working diligently to meet the deadline.
Besides, the city roads, which were damaged due to rain and poor condition, are being repaired on a war footing. The Public Works Department has been instructed to complete the road repairs, maintained by the BMC Mayor.
