Sundargarh: In yet another instance of man-animal conflict, an elderly man was trampled to death by a tusker in Patmunda village under Koida Forest Range of Odisha’s Sundargarh district on Thursday night. The deceased has been identified as Sama Munda (50).
According to reports, wandering in search of food, a tusker invaded Patmunda village and broke into the thatched house of Sama Munda on Thursday night. Panicked over the elephant attack, his family tried to escape but the tusker lifted Sama Munda by its trunk and crushed him under its feet.
As the news of Sama’s gruesome death spread, tension prevailed in the region. Villagers started an agitation demanding compensation to Sama’s family. The Forest Department officials arrived at the scene and sent the body for post-mortem with a promise of compensation.
