Balangir/Keonjhar: As many as five persons died in two separate road mishaps in Bolangir and Keonjhar districts, on Monday.

As per reports, two bikers were killed when a gas tanker hit the bike they were travelling in front of OAV school at Belapada. The gas-laden truck is reported to have fled the scene after the mishap.

However, a few locals chased the truck in a bolero and managed to intercept the truck near Brahampura of Patnagarh. They handed over the truck driver to the police.

The deceased have been identified as Sanju Nayak and Keshab Majhi of Bharua Munda village.

However, tension ran high at the accident site after police took away the deceased’s bodies. Bharua Munda villagers held up traffic at Patnagarh-Kantabanji main road by placing tree logs on the road.
In a separate incident, three persons died after a trailer truck hit a bike they were riding. The mishap occurred near Godavari Dhaba at Dhenkikote on National Highway 20.

The deceased are Kanhu Munda, Bhadra Khatua of Masinabila village and Maheswar Nayak of Sanabarabeda village. They were returning to their villages.

They were rushed to Ghatagoan Hospital where doctors pronounced them dead.
The trailer driver reportedly fled the scene but was caught by police near the Dhenkikote tollgate.
