Bhubaneswar: In a tragic incident, a minor boy and his sister drowned to death in a village pond in Subalo village under Baliapatna police limits in Odisha’s Khurda district on Tuesday morning.
The deceased have been identified as Bapun Jena (8) and his sister Mandei Jena (14).
According to reports, the siblings were enjoying their Durga Puja vacation playing outside their home on Tuesday morning. Suddenly, the boy fell into the nearby pond and started drowning. Seeing her brother in trouble, Mandei jumped into the pond to save him. However, both of them drowned.
Finding the siblings nowhere to be seen, the family launched a frantic search for them but failed to trace their whereabouts. Later, villagers spotted their bodies floating in the pond and rescued the siblings.
The two children were rushed to the Capital Hospital in Bhubaneswar where the doctors pronounced them ‘brought dead’. A pall of gloom descended on Subalo village as news of the tragic incident spread.
