Bhubaneswar: An unidentified assailant hurled acid at a man and his 12-year-old son when they were asleep on their porch, leaving them severely injured.
The incident took place at Kundeli village under Tumudibandh police limits in Kandhamal district, on Friday night.
The victims have been identified as Mohan Pandar and his son Anuj Pandar .
According to reports, Mohan and Anuj were sleeping on their porch when a miscreant hurled acid at them in the dead of the night. Both father and son screamed in pain following which the rest of the family woke up. However, by the time the family members came outside, the attacker had already fled.
Mohan and Anuj were rushed to Tumudibandh Medical Centre. As their conditions were critical, they were subsequently transferred to the Sub Divisional Hospital in Baliguda for further treatment.
In response to a complaint, police reached the scene and launched an investigation.
Police, meanwhile, began interrogating villagers to ascertain the whereabouts of the culprit responsible for this horrifying act.
