Bhubaneswar: The State Government today announced closure of all colleges and Universities in 14 districts for three days starting Wednesday (October 23) in view of impending Cyclonic Storm ‘Dana’over Bay of Bengal.
In a letter to the Commissioner-cum-secretary of Higher Education department, the Special Relief Commissioner has asked to take necessary action in this regard.
The districts which are likely to be affected by wind as well as heavy rainfall are Ganjam. Puri, Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapara, Bhadrak, Balasore. Mayurbhanj. Keonjhar. Dhenkanal, Jajpur and Angul, Khordha, Nayagarh and Cuttack.
“…the Colleges and Universities in the above districts from 23 October to 25 October 2024 shall remain closed as a precautionary measure,” the letter read.
The SRC stated that IMD, BBSR has predicted that well-marked low-pressure area over east-central Bay of Bengal moved west-northwestwards and concentrated into a depression today, which is very likely to move west-northwestwards and intensify into a cyclonic storm by October 23 over east-central Bay of Bengal.
It is very likely to intensify into a severe cyclonic storm over northwest Bay of Bengal by 24th and cross north Odisha and West Bengal coasts between Puri and Sagar Island during October 24 and 25 as severe cyclonic storm.
Earlier, the Government also announced the closure of all schools for three days in the districts likely to be affected by the disaster.
