Bhubaneswar: In view of impending cyclone ‘Dana’ over Bay of Bengal, the East Coast Railway has cancelled 197 long-distance trains, most of them passing through Odisha.
The trains cancelled include 85 UP trains while 93 are on the Down line. The trains will remain off the track from October 23 to 25.
The cyclonic storm is expected to approach the shores between Odisha and West Bengal during October 24-25. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) predicts winds of 100-120 kmph during landfall.
Coastal regions in West Bengal and Odisha are likely to experience severe rainfall and wind.
The IMD said that the low-pressure area over east-central Bay of Bengal moved west-northwestwards and concentrated into a depression today, which is very likely to move west-northwestwards and intensify into a cyclonic storm by October 23 over east-central Bay of Bengal.
It is very likely to intensify into a severe cyclonic storm over the northwest Bay of Bengal by October 24 and cross north Odisha and West Bengal coasts between Puri and Sagar Island between October 24 night and 25 morning as a severe cyclonic storm.
