Bhubaneswar: In the wake of the impending cyclonic storm ‘Dana’, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi asked all the MLAs to stay in their respective constituencies to cooperate with the district administration in rescue and relief operations.
“In view of the possible cyclonic storm and heavy rainfall, all the MLAs must be present in their respective constituencies to coordinate with the district administration to deal with the cyclone and expedite relief and rescue operations,” Majhi wrote on ‘X’.
All the MLAs should try their best to stay with the people of their respective constituencies and provide them with the necessary support, he added.
The State Government has left no stone unturned to ensure zero casualty while dealing with the cyclone which is likely to hit coasts between Odisha and West Bengal on October 24 night or October 25 morning.
All the cyclone shelters have been kept prepared. Adequate temporary shelters have been set up to accommodate the victims. Arrangements have also been made to serve cooked food to the people at cyclone shelters. Evacuation will be completed by tomorrow evening, Revenue and Disaster Management Minister Suresh Pujari said.
The depression over east-central Bay of Bengal has intensified into a deep depression which is very likely to intensify into a cyclonic storm over east-central Bay of Bengal by October 23, IMD stated in its latest bulletin.
The depression over east-central Bay of Bengal intensified into a Deep Depression in the evening on Tuesday over the same region about 690 km southeast of Paradip (Odisha), 740 km south-southeast of Sagar Island (West Bengal) and 710 km south-southeast of Khepupara (Bangladesh).
It is very likely to move west-northwestwards and intensify into a cyclonic storm by October 23 over eastcentral Bay of Bengal, the IMD added.
Thereafter, continuing to move northwestwards, it is very likely to intensify into a severe cyclonic storm over northwest Bay of Bengal by morning of October 24 and cross north Odisha and West Bengal coasts between Puri and Sagar Island during the night of October 24 to October 25 morning as a severe cyclonic storm.
