Bhubaneswar: All government and private schools in Kandhamal district will remain closed on Friday due to cyclonic storm ‘Dana’ that is expected to hit the coast on Wednesday night or Thursday early morning.
The District Education Officer (DEO) has written to all the BEOs and headmasters of the schools in the district.
He mentioned in his letter that all the schools of the district have been declared holiday for tomorrow in view of the cyclone. The decision has been taken as a preventive measure as the cyclone is likely to trigger heavy rain in the district.
Earlier, the government had announced the closure of schools, colleges and universities across 14 districts from October 23 to October 25 due to the cyclonic storm Dana.
The Special Relief Commissioner on October 21 had announced the schools in Ganjam, Puri, Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapara, Bhadrak, Balasore, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Dhenkanal, Jajpur, Angul, Khurda, Nayagargh and Cuttack districts to remain closed.
Notably, severe cyclonic storm Dana is expected to make landfall between Bhitarkanika and Dhamra on Thursday night and Friday morning.
