Bhadrak: An expecting mother evacuated hours before the landfall of severe cyclonic storm ‘Dana delivered a baby boy at a health centre in the district on Thursday.
The parents celebrated the moment amidst fear of cyclone. The elated parents named the baby after Cyclone ‘Dana’.
Due to increasing rain and wind speed, the administration brought a woman named Shubha Mallik of Kantika village of Raipur panchayat under Dhamnagar Block to Dhushuri Health Centre where she gave birth to a baby boy at 2 PM on Thursday.
Both the mother and the newborn are doing well, reports said. The good news came amid the hectic preparation of the government for the cyclonic storm.
The Bhadrak district administration evacuated several pregnant women to nearby health centres and Maa Gruha among whom Shubha Mallik was about to deliver.
On Thursday, around 4,421 pregnant women were shifted to hospitals from vulnerable areas in Balasore, Bhadrak, Kendrapara and other districts. Of the evacuated pregnant women, 1600 deliveries were done by Thursday evening, government sources said.
