Balasore: The cyclone Dana has caused flood-like situations in Balasore district. With relentless rains causing widespread inundation, as many as 10 villages in the district have been cut off from the rest of the world.
As per the reports, the Budhabalanga and Son rivers are swollen with floodwaters, causing widespread inundation in multiple areas of Balasore district. The severe flooding has particularly affected villages such as Niligiri, Begunia in Remuna, Kansa, Kathapola, and Kalyanpur. That apart, areas coming under the Nilagiri Block and the Begunia Panchayat have been submerged in floodwaters, making it difficult for residents to connect with one another.
The other affected villages are Begunia, Mitrapur, Kalyani, Singiri, Totapada, Lachhnapur, Shanshapal, Nishankhpur, Tikirapal, and Dubati. The residents of these villages have meanwhile urged local authorities to take immediate action for their rehabilitation.
Residents in the Soro and Simulia blocks, situated near the Kansabansa River, are on high alert due to escalating flood concerns. Due to cyclone, many houses and roads in these localities have been submerged. Besides, trees and electric poles have been uprooted much to the inconvenience of people residing there. With continuous rainfall, the water levels are expected to rise further, leaving the residents in a state of panic.
