Bhubaneswar: Police today rescued a group of migrant workers of Bolangir district while being trafficked to Telangana and Andhra Pradesh in two separate incidents.

As many as 22 workers, who had taken advance payments from the middlemen, were rescued by the police. Two middlemen were also detained, police sources said.

According to reports, a middleman named Ram Bihar was transporting 15 labourers including five women, two children to Telangana. All the workers are from Patnagarh and Baddakala village.

Labourers said they migrate to outside the State in search of job in the absence of adequate works in their locality.

“It is hard to support our families due to a lack of work in our villages, which forced us to accept advance payments from our employers,” said a rescued labourer.

In separate incident, seven more migrant workers were rescued by Turekela Police Station. The group included three women, and a child.

The middleman Naren from Lahandipali, was driving them to Andhra Pradesh. The police successfully rescued the workers and sent them back to home. Police detained two middlemen and a driver and seized a Bolero vehicle along with four bikes.
