Bhubaneswar: The State government today rewarded ASHA Shivani Mandal who hogged the headlines for her extraordinary dedication and humanity during the time of Cyclone Dana.

The Block Development Officer (BDO) of Rajnagar block today met her at her house in Khasamunda village and handed over the work order for a pucca house under PM Awas Yojana.

Earlier, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi spoke to her over phone and praised her for the selfless service she displayed during the time of disaster.

The CM had promised a pucca house and other government support after learning that she lacked a house. Majhi had ordered the BDO to provide her with a house under government scheme.

When an elderly, paralyzed woman was unable to reach the shelter due to heavy rain, Shivani had carried her on her back for a kilometer to a cyclone centre. The photo of her act was widely circulated on social media.

When the CM spoke to her, he came to know that the ASHA had carried nine persons including two pregnant women on her back to safe cyclone shelters during the cyclone.
