Phulbani: Chaos and tension prevailed in the Phulbani District Headquarters Hospital (DHH) after a couple discovered that the hospital authorities handed them a newborn baby girl instead of their baby boy.
According to reports, the baby boy born to Liza Mukhi, wife of Kiran Pradhan and a native of Panji Sahi in Phulbani town, was admitted to the Special Newborn Care Unit (SNCU) of the Phulbani DHH as he suffered from low weight. The doctors at the DHH referred Mukhi’s baby to the MKCG Medical College and Hospital in Berhampur for better treatment. The DHH staff, however, handed over a newborn baby girl wrapped in a cloth to the couple and sent them to the MKCG Medical College and Hospital.
The anomaly was detected when the doctors at the MKCG Medical College and Hospital told the couple that their baby girl was in good health. Receiving the worst shock of their life, the couple returned to Phulbani DHH and on verification, they found that their son was still in the SNCU of the DHH. Soon, tension prevailed on the hospital premises.
The DHH authorities acknowledged their mistake and arranged an ambulance for the distressed couple and sent them again to MKCG Medical College and Hospital.
Meanwhile, Dolamani Pradhan, ADMO in-charge at Phulbani DHH, said they will investigate the matter after receiving a report from the SNCU in-charge.
