Bhubaneswar: A 19-year-old youth was killed in a firecracker explosion during Diwali celebrations at Odisha’s Puri town on Thursday.
The deceased has been identified as Bula Rout of Batagaon Routsahi in Puri Sadar area.
According to reports, Bula and two others, identified as Sanjay Jena and Bula’s sister-in-law Lipa Routh, sustained critical injuries when firecrackers exploded at Batagaon Routsahi in the evening. The incident took place while Bula was selling crackers near his house.
The injured were rushed to the Puri District Headquarters Hospital (DHH) and later shifted to SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack as their condition deteriorated. Bula died while undergoing treatment.
At least 50 people were rushed to Capital Hospital in Bhubaneswar after they sustained burn injuries while bursting crackers.
Similarly, three children and two youths from different places, including Charampa, Dhusuri, Simulia, and Kudabarua were admitted to Bhadrak District Headquarter Hospital (DHH) for burn injury treatment. Two persons, including a minor boy, sustained burn injuries in Sambalpur district and were admitted for treatment.
Over 10 people were injured in different areas on Soro in Balasore district following firecracker mishaps during Diwali celebrations on Thursday evening.
