Bhubaneswar: The Puri Jagannath Temple is all set to celebrate Diwali today for which the Shree Jagannath Temple Administration has made elaborate arrangements.
As per reports, police have tightened security to ensure a smooth and safe Diwali celebration.
According to Puri Superintendent of Police, three additional SPs, 11 DSPs, 18 Inspectors, and 26 platoons of force have been deployed to maintain law and order during the celebrations.
In the Holy City, Diwali also holds a deeper significance because thousands converge outside Puri’s Jagannath temple gate to light earthen lamps and offer lighted sticks to their forefathers as part of Paya Shradha which is also known as Badanadua Daka. This sacred ritual is believed to bring peace to the souls of the departed and earn blessings for their grandchildren.
“As we light the lamps and offer prayers, we bridge the gap between past and present, weaving a narrative of continuity and heritage. Badabadua Daka symbolizes our gratitude for the values, traditions, and stories passed down through generations. It’s a powerful reminder that our identity is rooted in the sacrifices and struggles of those who came before us”, maintained a temple servitor.
Yesterday, Diwali was celebrated with great enthusiasm and fervour across the state, with people decorating their homes with lights and bursting crackers. However, in Puri, the celebrations will take place today, as per the traditional calendar.
The police department meanwhile has issued an advisory urging devotees to follow traffic guidelines and security instructions to ensure a peaceful celebration.
