Bhubaneswar: Five senior students at MKCG Medical College and Hospital have been permanently expelled from the hostel for their alleged involvement in the ragging of junior students.
According to Dean Suchitra Dash, the decision followed a thorough investigation by the anti-ragging committee. In addition to expulsion from the hostel, the students have been banned from receiving scholarships, fellowships and other benefits provided by the medical institute.
Previously, these students were prohibited from entering the campus for six months, but the recent actions reflect the seriousness of the situation.
Of late, the medical college has faced flak from different quarters with reports of seniors mistreating juniors pouring in. Some junior MBBS students filed complaints with the National Medical Commission (NMC) which instructed Dean Professor Suchitra Dash to launch an investigation into the matter and take appropriate action.
