Bhubaneswar: A ragging allegation has surfaced at SCB Medical College in Cuttack involving a first-year MBBS student and a final-year student. Meanwhile, the Anti-Ragging Committee of the state’s premier medical college has initiated an investigation into the matter.
The incident comes days after a similar ragging case was reported at MKCG Medical College in Berhampur.
Meanwhile, Lucy Das, the Dean of SCB Medical College declined the allegations stating that no written complaint was filed. We have not even received any complaint in the mail, but a verbal complaint was received. Based on the verbal complaint, the college authorities are investigating the matter and have spoken to the students involved.
The Dean further clarified that the investigation revealed no ragging took place, and the students were only asked their names.
Dean said, “I met with first-year MBBS students to inquire about any potential ragging incidents. I asked them directly if they’ve faced any ragging issues today. We generally activate the anti-ragging committee immediately after first-year student admissions. The committee holds meetings with hostel committees to sensitize students about ragging and its ill effects. We’re committed to preventing ragging.”
“If we receive any complaints, we’ll take immediate action and keep you informed”, she signed off.
Recently, MKCG Medical College and Hospital has faced flak from different quarters with reports of seniors mistreating juniors pouring in. Some junior MBBS students filed complaints with the National Medical Commission (NMC) which instructed the Dean of the medical college to launch an investigation into the matter and take appropriate action.
