Bhubaneswar: Health Minister Mukesh Mahaling on Monday met two Kandhamal-based women who are undergoing treatment at the SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack after falling critically ill due to consumption of gruel made of mango kernel last week.
After meeting the ailing women who hail from Mandipanka village under the Daringbadi block of Kandhamal district, Minister Mahaling assured that the medical team is providing the utmost care. Their condition is stable.
“The patients are receiving advanced treatment from a specialized medical team that includes doctors from medicine, hepatology, and critical care departments. To prevent such incidents in the future, the Odisha government has planned to raise awareness about the dangers of consuming mango kernel.”
“The patients Jita Majhi and Tuni Majhi are detected to have multi-organ failure including liver failure, kidney failure with deposition of fluid in chest and abdomen along with disorders of blood coagulation and mental confusion. They are undergoing hemodialysis at MICU. Doctors are making every effort to save them”, maintained doctor Jayanta Panda, who is treating the ailing women adding that the patients are critical.
