Cyclone Dana Caused Rs 616.19 Crore Damage In Odisha: Revenue & Disaster Management Minister

Bhubaneswar: Odisha Revenue and Disaster Management Minister Suresh Pujari on Wednesday revealed that the state has received the final assessment report detailing the losses incurred due to cyclone Dana. The cyclonic storm and subsequent flooding affected approximately 131 blocks across 14 districts in Odisha.

Cyclone Dana’s devastation has incurred overall damages of approximately Rs 616.19 crore, impacting various state departments, including Energy, Panchayati Raj, and Rural Development. The cyclonic storm and subsequent flooding also resulted in significant crop losses, estimated at Rs 82.92 crore across the state. These damages are a consequence of the cyclone’s severe impact on 14 districts in Odisha.

Briefing the final report of losses incurred by Dana, the Revenue Minister said, “We have received the final report of the losses caused due to the cyclonic storm. Many state departments including the Power Department, Panchayati Raj Department and Rural Development Department were also affected by the cycloneThe total damage to public property and departments amounts to Rs 512.26 crores. Apart from this, 131 blocks across 14 districts of Odisha were affected. The state’s crop loss due to the cyclone and floods is estimated at Rs 82.92 crores, while house damages amount to Rs 21 crores. The overall damages are estimated to be Rs 616.19 crores. This is the final assessment report, and the file is now in processing.”

He further stated that financial assistance will be distributed to affected departments and districts within a day or two. The government’s primary focus is ensuring that compensation reaches those impacted by Cyclone Dana.

“As per the compensation will be provided to houses which have been partially or completely damaged. In case of completely damaged houses, we would provide them houses under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY),” maintained the Minister.
