Bhubaneswar: A ragging case has emerged at the Government College of Engineering in Keonjhar, where a second-year mining student was allegedly assaulted by five senior students. The critically injured student is undergoing treatment at District Headquarters Hospital.
The victim has been identified as Biswajit Behera, a second-year mining student. He has alleged that five senior students brutally assaulted and injured him.
According to Biswajit’s complaint, the incident occurred around 2:30 am when the seniors broke into his hostel room after he refused to open the door. The seniors then brutally assaulted him with rods and sticks, leaving him critically injured.
Upon being informed, the hostel warden rushed to the spot and immediately intervened, asking the seniors to leave. The warden immediately rushed Biswajit to the District Headquarters Hospital.
Biswajit’s family members have meanwhile filed a written complaint with the police, alleging that the seniors intentionally targeted him. His father has appealed to the authorities to take stern action against the accused to prevent such incidents in future.
College Principal Saroj Kumar Sarangi visited Biswajit at the hospital and assured him that the college’s anti-ragging cell would take immediate action against the accused. A meeting has been convened today to address the incident.
