Dhenkanal: The Forest Department rescued a male leopard from a trap laid for hunting wild boar in the forest near Asnabahali village under Dadaraghati Forest Section of Bankhand Mahabirod Range in Dhenkanal forest division.
After a 10-hour-long operation, the leopard was rescued and shifted to Nandankanan zoo for observation. Special teams from Dhenkanal and Keonjhar forest departments collaborated on the leopard rescue operation. The staff of Mahavirod Police Station cooperated to ensure public safety and prevent unauthorized access.
“The operation was conducted with RRT Kapilash Team with Kapilash Vet and Biologist with assistance from Keonjhar Divison Veterinarian and Biologist,” stated the Forest Department.
The rescue operation was led by Dhenkanal DFO Sumit Kar. According to the forest department, the leopard is approximately five years old. Dhenkanal DFO explained that the leopard fell into a hunting trap. The forest department’s investigation is underway.
