Bhubaneswar: A tiger was spotted when it was crossing the busy National Highway 16 near Roland College on the outskirts of Berhampur city on Wednesday. The video of the big cat crossing the highway was captured by a car camera, which is widely circulated on social media.
According to forest officials, the tiger has been roaming in the area since October 25. Pug marks were found in Narasinghgarh village, confirmed by forest officials. They claimed the animal is a Royal Bengal Tiger.
The Forest officials found the pug marks of the tiger in the same areas.
Following the video footage that went viral on the internet, the forest department has intensified patrolling the nearby areas and sensitise people.
“Our team is patrolling the area and making locals aware of the tiger’s presence. The Royal Bengal tiger was first spotted in January, and it appears to be the same tiger,” said Sunny Khokhar, DFO, Berhampur.
He added that they have set up camps in villages near the forest and are spreading awareness about the tiger’s presence.
