Bhubaneswar: The Commissionerate Police has picked up a youth of Jammu and Kashmir who was travelling to Bhubaneswar from Kashmir in a train to allegedly kidnap an Odia girl for forced conversion.
The accused, identified as Sameer Mansoor, originally hails from Bihar and is currently stationed in J&K while the victim is a resident of Pathuria village near Rahama under Kujanga police limits of Jagatsinghpur district.
According to the complaint lodged by the girl, the girl and the youth (belonging to another community) came to know each other through the online gaming app ‘Free Fire’, in 2022. Gradually, they got closer and had entered into a relationship.
Hiding his religious affiliation, the youth allegedly started luring the girl. In March 2024, the accused visited Odisha and met her. During their stay in a hotel in Puri, Sameer allegedly established a physical relationship with her.
“The accused initially concealed his identity and religion and trapped the girl in his love. Then he established physical relationship. The girl only came to know his religion when he forced her to convert for marriage. When she refused, he started blackmailing her, by threatening to make her intimate moment videos viral,” advocate Sanghamitra Rajguru said.
“We have registered a case at Mahila Police station on the written complaint of the victim. Her statement has been recorded and she was sent for medical examination. We are investigating her allegation against a youth. We are currently in a preliminary stage of investigation. We will update as the investigation progresses,” said SN Muduli, ACP, Zone-1, Bhubaneswar.
