Jharsuguda: A youth working as a cashier in a hotel in Jharsuguda ended life by jumping before moving train over severe mental stress due to loss of money in online betting.
31-year-old Achyutananda Sahoo, a resident of Oradi Lankapada village in Kendrapara, had taken a personal loan of around Rs 25 lakh and was under mental pressure due to his inability to repay it. According to police, he had lost a significant amount of money in online games.
Hotel manager Pradipta Kumar Sahu stated that Achyutananda had reported to work normally on the morning of the fateful day and showed no signs of distress. However, a text message sent to his mother revealed his crisis.
After his family informed the hotel management about the message, police were informed, and efforts were made to trace him. Unfortunately, it was too late.
As per the primary investigation, Achyutananda was under mental duress due to huge loss of money in online betting, Government Railway Police (GRP) IIC Santosh Mirdha said.
The exact reason can only be ascertained after the post-mortem report, he added.
